CLC joins global unions in calling on G20 leaders to lay foundation for a New Social Contract
The Canadian Labour Congress joins trade unions from around the world to urge leaders of the G20 to heed the call from the Labour 20 Group to take all necessary measures to contain and eliminate the pandemic and lay the foundation for a New Social Contract as the cornerstone for ensuring recovery and resilience.
The L20 statement to the G20 Leaders’ Summit stresses that this year’s G20 Summit comes at a critical time when we must continue to save lives while laying the foundations for a recovery. Trade unions are calling for a focus on resilience with investment in quality jobs, the protection of rights and living wages, universal social protection and Just Transition. The Labour 20 Group (L20) represents the interests of workers at the G20 level. It brings together representatives from trade unions from G20 countries and the Global Unions, under the coordination of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC).1 2
